Day6 Himalaya to MBC banner

ABC Trekking_Day6| Highlights

  • 路線|0715Himalaya(2920m) -0935Deurali(3200m)-1340MBC(3700m)

Today’s goal is to reach MBC, and along the way, we’ll pass through Deurali, the village where we’ll stay tomorrow The weather forecast indicates good weather for the next two days, meaning we might have the chance to witness the sunrise when we reach ABC. We had breakfast at 6:30, and we set out at 7:15. Walking through the forest in the early morning feels very pleasant. When we saw Hinku Cave, we were halfway to Deurali. Hinku Cave is a natural, large rock, and from here, we can faintly see the village of Deurali in the distance.

The stretch beyond Hinku Cave is like walking on the mountainside. You can see continuous mountains within arm’s reach on your right side, separated only by a stream. It’s like walking on a road surrounded by layers of mountains, both narrow and expansive. We took a break in the village for half an hour, enjoying some ginger tea. By this time, the sun had come out.The small drying area, combined with the sight of small snow piles, creates a cute and contrasting scene. We resumed our journey at 10:00.

After departing from Deurali, I found this stretch of the journey to be the most beautiful. It was as if we entered a fairyland, where every angle was picturesque. Walking in the valley, the stream was right beside our path. The colors of the vegetation on both sides of the mountains differed – one side in vibrant green, the other in deep blue. With the blue sky and white clouds overhead, the endless, rolling mountains almost overwhelmed me with their beauty.

Deurali

In the past few days, the trails were challenging due to recent snowfall and avalanches. It was slippery and dangerous, especially when passing through areas where others seemed to manage fine but maintaining balance was a struggle for me. At 12:30, it unexpectedly began to snow.

Everyone put on their “raincoats” in the snow, hastening our steps to reach tonight’s destination, MBC. The raincoats, including the ones our guide purchased for us along the way, were made from large plastic bags cut open on one side which can covered our guide and our belongings.

We decided to stay at the first accommodation we encountered because the alternative required climbing further. At 13:40, amidst heavy snowfall. It was truly cold, and we knew we would need both our own sleeping bags and the provided blankets for the night. Once we were filled and warmed, we ventured outside to look at the snow-covered mountains, resembling melting scoops of ice cream.

There’s nothing like this in Taiwan! We also met fellow travelers from mainland China who managed basic communication in English, indicating that gestures and simple language were sufficient. They shared with us that it took them only two days to travel from Gandruk to MBC! It was quite surprising, considering we spent six days on the same journey. However, they mentioned the risk of altitude sickness due to their rapid ascent. While the gentleman quickly adapted, our auntie wasn’t as fortunate, experiencing symptoms. For safety reasons, only my mother and I continued to ABC the next day.
